JoFY Bingo Wk.11

Hello - welcome back to JoFY Bingo after a bit of an unscheduled (and unexpected) break in the game!

Week 11 brings us gardening and boys.... hhhmmm... a tricky one because back in Week 2 (HERE) I used the big beach hut with flowers so I didn't really want to visit that again - though I do still think that the boy would look fab dressed up as a gardener! (feel free to try that for yourselves...)

I LOVE looking through gardening catalogues! The variety of flowers - their shapes and colours and the combinations when put together are stunning! Sigh... oh to have a garden like that!
So I used this weeks stamps to create a journal page featuring one of the lovely photographs from the RHS catalogue...

I wanted this to be a relaxed loose journal page - I 'planned' to use splashes of paint, scribbled handwriting and painted edges around the photo...

I painted the background in greens to tone in with the leaves in the photograph - Magic Moss & Tinned Peas mixed with Chalk towards the outside edges. I added strips of washi tape and stamped flowers over the top of these to create layers and 'tie' them to the background.

I glued the photograph onto the page...

I stamped small stems in the bottom right hand corner (Black Archival ink), and added pencil scribbles to the corners of the photo to define the edges more.

I added a small strip of washi tape and stamped the small tools from JM43 along it. I also wiped Amethyst & Bougainvillea paint around the edges of the page and scibbled pencil lines to create a 'border'.

I painted patches of Bougainvillea and Amethyst on to Smoothy card and stamped on a couple of flowers (JOFY24), I stamped the leaf stem onto green painted card too - cut them out and added them to the page.

I think more of the photos from gardening catalogues are going to find their way on to my journal spreads.. and some of the plants may even end up in my garden!!  fingers crossed!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Life Canvas workshops...

Do you like working on box canvasses but find them a bit tricky - working down the sides, over the edges, working on the unstable surface?? Then I might have just the perfect workshop for you!

Working on 2 fabulous flat pack, self assembly canvasses (don't worry about the 'flat pack'  they're easier to assemble than Ikea furniture!) we'll go from this...

... to this ... using paints of your choosing, stamps and stencils...

The canvasses are SO easy to work on and look just like a fabric canvas! I'd like to shake the hand of the person who thought of the idea - they are a little bit genius!! lol

I love this project!! Its so summery & fun!! And because I like it so much I have scheduled 3 workshops around the country using them....

In calendar order:

If you're in/near Essex the workshop is at Birds in the Barn (now located at Studio 36) on Saturday 14 April 2018, limited spaces remaining...
Call  01376 326358 to book a place, and to get more details... or visit the website

If you are based in the north of England I have a weekend of classes for Rowan Tree Crafts, Carnforth on 21-22 April 2018 (you can find details about that here) and I'll be running this workshop on the Sunday.
Go to the website for more details.

Then last, but by no means least, if you're in the Kent area you can join me at The Artistic Stamper on Saturday 12 May 2018.. and you can find details here

These are going to be fun workshops and I hope you can join me!

JOYful bunting!

Hi

Over on the PaperArtsy blog last night (02.04.2018) I shared my Summer flower bunting (you can see it here) and when I'd finished making the banner I had pennants left over.. I mentioned that I'd create something with them... maybe something with letters... and here it is... flowers and bunting bring me joy so this seems very appropriate!

(The big die cut letters are 'serif essentials' by Sizzix)

Thanks for stopping by..

JoFY Bingo Wk.10

Hello, and welcome to JoFY Bingo Week 10! This was a fun week because both sets drawn by my trusty bingo wheel were from the latest release of stamps! What were the chances of that happening?!! (and no christmas stamps! yay!)

I've made a journal spread (yes, another journal spread!) and I used 3 of the four stamps sets/minis  (pats self on back) ...

I really like the mushroom from JOFY62 and I would usually stamp it onto paler papers but this time I went dark - using some Basic Grey papers from The Stash (I miss  Basic Grey papers - quite a lot of The Stash is made up of that brand).  The flowers in the photo below are from JM62 and I've separated them from their background to use them on the stems from JOFY61 (the similar flowers on JOFY62 were too big for the stems)

Also on this page is a butterfly...

... which I made from two of the 3 petal flowers on JOFY61...  I couldn't decide which paper to use and so stamped out two options and chose the lighter, pinker one..

I cut out four petals to use as wings.  I stamped the small flower from JOFY61 onto coordinating paper and cut out a couple of petals to see which would work best as a body for the butterfly..

I assembled them and ta daaaa its a butterfly!!  To finish, all I needed to do was draw antennae on once the butterfly was in position on the page.

Its not the first creature I've made from my flowers (or that other people have made - I'm thinking of Lauren Hatwell's sheep again!) but I hope you'll agree its a passable butterfly!

Thanks for stopping by - if you'd like to join in with JoFY Bingo here's the details:

I'm going to continue using 2 stamps sets each week but if you'd like to join in but only have one of the chosen sets then join in using that set! Please come and play!

The numbers are drawn on Monday, along with a project I've made using the corresponding stamp sets, then the plan is to:

  • Use/combine 1 or 2 stamp sets (use only those stamp sets - but not necessarily all the stamps in each set - that would be too much of an ask but as long as there are one or two stamps from each set then its OK!)
  • 7 days to create 1 project, makers choice:  cards... atc... journal page... dimensional project... tag...
  • Use any paints/media, colours, embellishments, stencils/masks
  • Load up your project to Instagram any time during the week.  Please use Instagram links #jofybingo and @jofyjo in the text (not 'tagging' me please) so I can find it :o)
If you don't have an Instagram account you can add your make in the comments on the Facebook post linked to this blog post (facebook links:  https://www.facebook.com/JoFY.JoFirthYoung/ or https://www.facebook.com/jo.firthyoung )

I hope you can join in - I look forward to seeing what you create!
